Pursley Poised for Infineon Race

PARKER, ARIZONA (June 16, 2009) – Greg Pursley, driver of the Gene Price Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Series-West, started his racing career navigating the twisting and challenging layouts of Southern California area road courses. He has won on motorcycles and in full-fender vehicles; a win Saturday afternoon at Infineon Raceway would be a dream fulfilled for the 41-year old racing veteran.

“Road racing is a lot fun, but it can be just as frustrating,” Pursley said. “Not only are you racing the forty other drivers out there, you have to race the track. History has shown if you stay on track you will have a pretty good finish. The races at Infineon have usually had a late caution, so we just need to be in position at the end.”

Not only is a good finish what Pursley wants on Saturday, it is what he and the team expect. “There are going to be a lot of really good drivers in the race,” Pursley continued. “The race at Infineon always brings a lot of top notch road racing specialists and that usually makes things very interesting. The team has worked non-stop since Roseburg to get our road course car finished and we feel we have a really car for the race.”

Pursley is coming off an 8th place run at Douglas County two weeks ago and knows a strong finish at Infineon will put him right back in the championship hunt. “With the big field of cars at Infineon, you can gain a lot of points with a good finish,” Pursley stated. “Or you can lose a lot of points if you don’t. Our series has several really good road racers and then you add the road racing specialists like Boris Said and Patrick Long and you will have your work cut out for you.”

“I am pretty excited about the race this weekend at Infineon as well as the other road course events this season,” Pursley said. “The Infineon layout is very challenging leaving you virtually no time to relax. You make a little mistake and it will cost you.”

Winning in NASCAR is all about teamwork and Pursley has a great supporting cast at Gene Price Motorsports. “Gene Price has put together a first-class team and we would sure love to put him in victory lane on Saturday. Danny (Crafton) and all the guys have worked hard not only building cars and getting the shop finished, but have been excellent on race day.”

Greg Pursley in his second full season of competition in the NASCAR Camping World Series.  He has 22 career starts, one win (Thunder Hill 2009), five top five and ten top ten performances. Pursley is the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion where he competed at Toyota Speedway and was a multi-time winner on the now defunct NASCAR Southwest Tour where he competed for many years.

Greg Pursley is sponsored by Gene Price Motorsports, Star Nursery, Ron’s Rear Ends, and Finish Line Signs & Designs, and enters this weekend’s event fifth in the point standings after six races just 28 points behind fourth place and 111 points out of first place. The event at Infineon Raceway will be shown on SPEED Channel Thursday, July 2 at noon PT.
