Pursley Seeking Road Course Redemption at Portland
Gene Price Motorsports Driver Greg Pursley Hoping Top Finish at Portland Will Close Gap in Title Chase

PARKER, ARIZONA (July 15, 2009) – Greg Pursley, driver of the Gene Price Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Series-West, will visit Portland International Raceway for the first time in NASCAR Camping World Series action in the Bi-Mart/Salute to the Troops “125” on the beautiful 1.98-mile road course. Pursley, who started his racing career on road courses, will find a challenging, flat, and fast layout at Portland, but all the elements that fit his driving style as he looks to close the gap in the championship chase.

But new challenges are exactly what fuels Greg Pursley and his team owner Gene Price. The Gene Price Motorsports team formed over last winter and still has a lot of building to do, but in their first race together they were victorious at Kyle, Texas and have stayed in the top five of the point standings all season. While Eric Holmes, Jason Bowles, and David Mayhew lead him in the standings at present, there is still a lot of racing yet to do this season and a solid result this weekend will go a long way.

“I like racing road courses,” Pursley stated. “You have the chance to race your own race no matter where the other cars are. It is about pit strategy, teamwork, and driving every lap better than the next guy. The Portland layout will be a test but that is what makes racing fun. I expect a really good show and I am confident we can be there at the end.”

The Gene Price Motorsports crew lead by crew chief Danny Crafton have been working tirelessly in the shop building race cars, completing the shop for production and service work, along with racing and testing. The foundation has been laid for a successful team for years to come and this season has already been a huge success. “To be honest we are better than we planned,” Pursley said. “We knew we would be a solid team. I am proud of the whole team and their efforts so far this season, so the best is yet to come and Portland could be the best.”

Pursley and his team tested a similar type layout at Button Willow and feel they have a car to win at Portland. “I know Portland is flat and will require a good braking setup,” Pursley said. “The car tested really well and I am looking forward to racing on the Portland track. It is getting down to that point in the season when there are no mulligan’s and every lap counts. We had a great car at Sonoma until contact at the end so we are really focused on a better result this weekend.”

Greg Pursley in his second full season of competition in the NASCAR Camping World Series.  He has 24 career starts, one win (Thunder Hill 2009), six top five and eleven top ten performances. Pursley is the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion where he competed at Toyota Speedway and was a multi-time winner on the now defunct NASCAR Southwest Tour where he competed for many years.

Greg Pursley is sponsored by Gene Price Motorsports, Star Nursery, Ron’s Rear Ends, and Finish Line Signs & Designs. He enters this weekend’s event fourth in the point standings after eight races just 105 points behind third place and 192 points out of first place. The event at Portland International Raceway will be shown on SPEED Channel Thursday, July 30 at noon PT.
