Pursley Looking for Top Spot at Miller
GPM Driver Closing the Gap in the Points and Seeking First Win on Road Course in NCWS Action
PARKER, ARIZONA (July 28, 2009) – Greg Pursley, driver of the Gene Price Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Series-West, will visit Miller Motorsports Park for the first time in NASCAR Camping World Series action this Saturday, August 1 in the Miller Motorsports Park “125” on the world-class 3.06-mile road course. Pursley, who has a lot of experience on road courses and narrowly missed the victory at Portland eyes the top spot this time out.
Pursley finished in the runner-up spot on the Portland road course two weeks ago. And although most would be happy with a podium finish, the veteran competitor knows that he can close the gap in the point standings with a strong performance on Saturday. “Even though we are a first year team in the series, we have a lot of really experienced guys on the team that prepare excellent race cars,” Pursley said. “We have had great cars at each race this year and we continue to get better. I love racing on road courses and I am really looking forward to the race at Miller this weekend.”
The NCWS will compete on the 3.06-mile “perimeter course” at Miller Motorsports Park that features 14 unique and challenging corners along with slight elevation changes to add to the complexity of the circuit. A long front chute along with wide passing zones in the corners provide for spectacular racing action for competitors and fans alike.
While the Miller Motorsports Park layout will challenge in the most experienced road racing aces, Pursley enjoys the challenge. “The great thing about racing is that you are only as good as your last event and every race presents new challenges,” Pursley said. “We were good at Portland but we can get better. The layout at Miller is going to be fun but challenging. I really would not change anything about Portland except the finish but no matter how many laps you run you always can learn something. We learned a lot a Portland and feel we have a great opportunity to be competitive at Miller.”
From his view, team owner Gene Price is pleased with the progress of the team. “Greg, Danny (Crafton) and the rest of the team have done an excellent job this season,” Price said. “I am really pleased with our performance so far and looking to finish out the season just like we started.”
“We have a great team owner in Gene Price,” Pursley said. “He has build a first-class team and given me the opportunity of a lifetime. We are solely focused on putting Gene back in victory lane and challenging for the championship. A win at Miller this weekend would be awesome.”
Greg Pursley is in his second full season of competition in the NASCAR Camping World Series. He has 25 career starts, one win (Thunder Hill 2009), with seven top five and twelve top ten performances. Pursley is the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion where he competed at Toyota Speedway and was a multi-time winner on the now defunct NASCAR Southwest Tour where he competed for many years.
