Pursley Pumped for Toyota Speedway Return

PARKER, ARIZONA (July 2, 2009) – Greg Pursley, driver of the Gene Price Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Series-West, returns to the site of his greatest racing success this weekend for the King Taco “200” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (CA). Pursley has been a dominate drivers at the marquee racing facility in southern California for the past several years and the racetrack has been the site of his biggest moments in racing.

Pursley has won at Toyota Speedway in Super Late Models, Late Models, and the former SW Tour machines. He won the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship at Toyota Speedway and the 2008 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. Since 1999, Pursley has amassed more than 35 victories permanently etching his name in the record books.

Pursley may have more laps around the ultra-fast half mile paved oval than just about any other driver and that may give him a slight advantage. “I certainly know the place,” Pursley said. “But you look at Eric (Holmes), Jason (Bowles), David (Mayhew) and Mike (David) and they can win on any track on any night. Those are the guys we are chasing and those are the guys we have to beat. This series is pretty deep with talent and there is a lot of really good equipment out there so there are no easy races. We have a great car and I know we can get the job done and put Gene Price back in the winner’s circle.”

Pursley returns to Toyota Speedway looking for a momentum shift after a disappointing run two weeks ago at Infineon Raceway. While he maintains the fifth spot in the overall standings a solid run Saturday night will put him squarely back in the championship hunt. “I really love this place,” Pursley said. “I have had a great deal of success at Toyota Speedway and I feel like we have a real good shot at the win. It’s a 200 lap event so we are going to have to be smooth and ride it out for the first half of the race and then we will be just fine.”

“The best way to put a bad race out of your mind is to go out and win the next one,” Pursley offered. “Toyota Speedway is an awesome racetrack with great fans. The shows are always good and we are blessed to have such a great facility on the schedule.”

There have been 18 different NCWS races held at Toyota Speedway since 1999 with nine different winners. There have been twelve different Coors Light Pole winners in those 18 races with five races being won from the pole. “Like every race on the schedule, qualifying is critical,” Pursley said. “Winning the pole Saturday night will go a long way towards the victory.”

Greg Pursley in his second full season of competition in the NASCAR Camping World Series.  He has 23 career starts, one win (Thunder Hill 2009), five top five and ten top ten performances. Pursley is the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion where he competed at Toyota Speedway and was a multi-time winner on the now defunct NASCAR Southwest Tour where he competed for many years.

Greg Pursley is sponsored by Gene Price Motorsports, Star Nursery, Ron’s Rear Ends, and Finish Line Signs & Designs. He enters this weekend’s event fifth in the point standings after seven races just 43 points behind fourth place and 173 points out of first place. The event at Toyota Speedway will be shown on SPEED Channel Thursday, July 16 at noon PT.
