Pursley Looking for Redemption at Iowa
Gene Price Motorsports Driver Greg Pursley Ready for Iowa Speedway Result
PARKER, ARIZONA (September 1, 2009) – Greg Pursley, driver of the Gene Price Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Series-West, is anxious to return to Iowa speedway this Friday, September 4. Pursley feels the track owes him a little something after the last visited resulted in a flat tire and his worst finish of the season. Pursley enters the Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades “125” third in the point standings on the strength of four consecutive top five finishes.
Pursley and his Danny Crafton led Gene Price Motorsports team are not only focused on winning a championship, but determined to get back into victory lane this season after winning the opening round back in march in Texas. “It has been a long time since that win in Texas,” Pursley said. “We have been competitive all season and we let a couple victories get away from us. I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to race twice at Iowa this season because it is the finest track we compete on and the team deserves a better result than the finish back in May gave us.”
Pursley has had a stellar season thus far picking up one win, seven top five and nine top ten finishes in eleven races so far. “The season has really gone better than expected for a first year team,” Pursley offered. “When Gene Price put this team together we knew we would be good. Danny Crafton has done an awesome job with the setups and the rest of the crew both in the shop and at the track have been great. In racing it is a game of little things and we have continued to get better by focusing on the little things.”
Racing at Iowa presents several unique challenges for teams in the NCWS, but the challenge is half the fun of competing. “It is a long way to go but the opportunity to race at a track like Iowa is great for the series and for us as drivers,” Pursley said. “The track is wide and smooth and you can run just about anywhere you want. The trick is to be real good on corner entry. You want the car to cut setting you up for a good exit and corner speed. When they built the track they built it with the racer in mind. It is fun to drive and I know the fans will see a great race.”
While the series has been off for a couple of weeks, there has been no rest for the Gene Price Motorsports team. Recently, Gene Price opened a new full-service race shop complete with full-fabrication and chassis dyno capabilities as well as a complete parts department. Not only is the team maintaining the fleet of NCWS cars but offers a whole array of services to racers throughout the western United States.
“We have been busy since last winter,” Pursley said. “Not only building the West cars but completing the shop and getting the business off the ground. As much as we are looking forward to the ‘off season’ we are excited to get back racing this weekend.”
Greg Pursley is in his second full season of competition in the NASCAR Camping World Series and is currently third in the championship standings 156 points out of first. He has 27 career starts, one win (Thunder Hill 2009), with nine top five and 14 top ten performances. Pursley is the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion where he competed at Toyota Speedway and was a multi-time winner on the now defunct NASCAR Southwest Tour where he competed for many years.
